Vidya Balan, is an Indian actress who started her career by featuring in music videos, television shows and commercials before appearing in films. Her debut film was a Bengali film, Bhalo Dekho in 2003. Her debut film in Hindi was Parineeta (2005), which earned her a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut as well as her first Best Actress nomination at the same ceremony. Following Parineeta, she portrayed a variety of roles with Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006), Guru, Heyy Babyy (2008) and Bhool Bhulaiya (2008). All of these movies were commercially successful and her performance in Bhool Bhulaiya won her a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress. Her highly critically successful films are Paa (2009), Ishqiya (2010) and No One Killed Jessica in 2011. In Paa, she is the single mother struggling with a 12 year old son, suffering from Progeria's syndrome. Her portrayal won her a Filmfare Award for Best Actress and a Star Screen Award for Best Actress, among other awards. Her next feature film was Abhishek Chaubey's Ishqiya, starring Naseerudding Shah and Arshad Warsi. Her non-glamourous role won her rave accolades and she was awarded the Filmfare Critics Best Actress award and a nomination for Filmfare Best Actress award. She also featured in the bio-pic "No One Killed Jessica", starring Rani Mukherjee. Her role in this film was completely subdued and intense in nature, subsequently her performance was critically praised.
