Tezz is an action thriller about a man who plants a bomb on a London-Glasgow train for ransom. After committing this act of terror, he plans to take his family back to India
Tezz, produced by Bharat Shah and directed by Priyadarshan, is indeed loosely lifted from well known Hollywood action thrillers! However, contrary to popular opinion on how Tezz is an exact replica of Keanu Reeves-Sandra Bullock starrer
Speed, Tezz is quintessentially Indian at heart with its melodrama and exotic locations. But then, woefully predictable!
Aakash Rana (Ajay Devgan) is deported back to India from England because he was an illegal immigrant while his wife Nikita (Kangna Ranaut) is left alone in the UK. Four years later, Aakash returns to London and teams up with Aadil Khan (Zayed Khan) and Megha (Sameera Reddy) to commit an act of terror. He plants a bomb on a London-Glasgow passenger train and asks for 10 million Euros as ransom. So to summarize, you have a train (conveniently replacing the bus from Speed) that is on the verge of exploding thanks to a bomb strategically placed somewhere on its exterior. If a particular speed is not maintained, the bomb will go off!
The film has its moments and holds your interest, but it doesn’t make you move to the edge of your seat, though there are some anxious fingernail moments in which you are really anticipating what will happen next. Tezz is an action-packed masala film, and while being good in parts, certainly leaves you craving for a solid and far better plot and drama. The film, right from the word go, hits a breakneck speed and with so much going on all at once, you are left with little time to dwell on the large plot holes and some extremely tacky visual effects.
When it comes to acting, Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgan pack in a lethal punch. Anil Kapoor has a solid screen presence and is complimented by equally intense acting from Ajay Devgan and Boman Irani. Sameera Reddy and Zayed Khan don’t have much scope to show off their acting prowess. But with their limited screen presence, they have done a satisfactory job. Kangna Ranaut howls, screams, sobs and manages to act in-between the action. In short, she has done her job perfectly.
Surprise of the movie - Mohanlal is completely wasted! He gets to mouth just four lines in the entire film in one sequence, and takes giant leaps from one train to another to save passengers. An actor of his stature, when involved in such a tacky and out of place action sequence, makes you laugh out loud!
Tezz could have been a very compelling watch had the element of action and drama been balanced. Unfortunately, in midst of all those mindless action sequences, drama was completely ignored and lost in translation. If you have a penchant for glossy action thrillers where the action inevitably scores over the storyline, this film is perfect for you. Tezz, is a
Can watch if you are all for an Indian version of high octane, Hollywood action thrillers!
