A youngster's ramblings about love and his personal experiences with the same
Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi (KSY) is based on a popular short film of the same name. Lover boy Siddarth and Mynaa girl Amala Paul play the lead roles in this joint production of YNot Studios, Nirav Sha & Siddarth.
KSY is all about the dos and don'ts of love. The entire movie is presented as a monologue of an Engineering college student Arun (Siddarth), who falters in his love with Parvathy (Amala Paul). He explains where he met her for the first time, how they fell in love and why they have broken up.
Director Balaji Mohan converts his once short film into a feature film without changing the narrative style. Overall, its the short film's script coupled with few sub plots. The dialogues and sequences are interesting. The director elaborately presents the characteristics of a girl in love, as seen from a boy's perspective. What's beautifully showcased is how the marriages & romances of today's generation breakup for silly issues.
The first half is quirky and well paced. The romance between Siddarth & Amala Paul has been scripted and executed well, with some solid onscreen chemistry that can be seen amongst them. The monologue narrative style is the biggest drawback of the movie. Audiences are generally used to this style of a single character speaking out only at the opening of a movie, and not throughout the length of the movie! A love documentary indeed!
Siddarth looks young and is a perfect fit for a sincere lover. Though he has done the same kind of role many times, he continues to impress the audience with his realistic performance. Amala Paul scores better than Siddarth as she has the more frames to showcase her talent. Deepa Venkat’s voice is very apt for her and keeps her character alive.
Vignesh, Jayasimha & Shiva, who had all acted in the short film, play the same roles in this movie. Shiva, who gives romantic ideas to his friends, has done a fantastic job. Yesteryear hero Suresh has given a matured performance. Ravi Raghavendra & SS Music fame Pooja have also done well.
Though the background score is good, all the songs are average. Most of the tunes resemble the old classics, and this is a disappointment for a romance-centric movie such as KSY. The
Parvathy song resembles Kadhalikka Neramillai movie's
Viswanathan Velaivenum. Cinematography by Nirav Sha is brilliant & colorful. A R Mohan's art direction is realistic. T. S. Suresh's Editing is average.
Director Balaji Mohan gives a nice package for the youngsters. The overall story, interesting romantic sequences and the hilarious dialogues will be a treat for couples. That said, brace yourself for a documentary film. A
