Award Winning movies omitted from Chennai Film Festival!

The 9th Edition of Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF), which kicks off today, is under a cloud for a peculiar reason. The Festival has failed to nominate some critically acclaimed films in its list of 12 movies which are running for the CIFF Best Film awards.

Director Seenu Ramasamy's Thenmerku Paruvakkatru has won three national awards, including Best Tamil Movie. Leena Manimekalai’s Sengadal is the only Tamil film to be screened at the 42nd International Film Festival of India, which was recently held at Goa. Sengadal has also won the NAWFF award at Tokyo for the Best Asian Film.

However, both Thenmerku Paruvakkatru and Sengadal have failed to make it to the list of movies running for the CIFF awards.

It is this culture that encourages movie makers to come up with movies of original and supreme quality, whether or not the movies have marketability aspects such as entertainment value and masala.

Given this, it is shocking to note the omission of Thenmerku Paruvakatru and Sengadal from CIFF. More so if it is considered that remake ripoff movies such as Deiva Thirumagal and Muran have made it to the list!

Here are the 12 Tamil movies that will be running for the awards at the CIFF:
