Amala Paul is an Indian film actress, who made her debut in Veerasekaran (2010). The film, which became her maiden Tamil release, was criticized by critics and went completely unnoticed. Amala's next release was the highly controversial film Sindhu Samalaveli directed by Samy in 2010. She portrayed the role of Sundari who has an illicit relationship with her father in law. Amala's performance was critically acclaimed as well as criticized for choosing to act in such a movie. However, Amala's next release, the romantic drama film Mynaa (2010) by Prabhu Solomon, made her a recognised actress in the industry. The film had garnered much anticipation prior to release, with noted distributors Udhayanidhi Stalin and Kalpathi S. Aghoram purchasing the rights of the film after being impressed with it. Amala played the village belle Mynaa, with critics labelling her performance as riveting and intense. The film subsequently became a large commercial success at the box-office. Following the success of Mynaa, Amala has been touted as the new upcoming star of 2011. Though her first 2011 starrer Vikadakavi bombed, more so due to the fact that it was a low budget affair, Deiva Thirumagal proved to be a raging box office buster.
